Raise your hats!

It’s hat day at the girls’ daycare, which got me inspired to write a post about none other than hats!!

I love when the daycare has fun days like this. Not only for the kids, but also for myself because then I get to pull out their cutest hats knowing that they get to walk around all day in them and take pictures. *sigh* I’m such a mom. I myself, admire a great hat. Back in my teenage days, I wore hats all the time! Baseball caps, beanies, fedoras, you name it, I owned it! Only recently I’ve fallen off of that trail and worried more about “hat hair”. As result of the daycare having this day, it made me ponder about the good ol’ days and make me want to jump back on the hat bandwagon! That wagon I shall join!! I’ve been admiring so many different styles that I can’t wait to go out shopping for some special pieces to accommodate my wardrobe. Do any of you value a great hat?? If so, what types? Would love to hear what your thoughts are.

Until then, here are some picks I’ve chosen that I myself fancy. Hope you adore them as much as I do!Raise your hats!

Emma cable pom-pom beanie, $12 / Hermès felt hat, $710 / Lucky Brand hat, $51 / BOY London snapbacks hat, $61 / Emilio Pucci, $370 / Oasis knit hat, $12 /  BCBG Max Azria, $49 / Studs snap back hat, $76 / Helene Berman glitter hat, $150

“T’was a night full of sparkle…”

It’s the day after the Academy Awards, and whether you care about them or not, somewhere, somehow, your computer screen will be flooded with pictures of stunningly beautiful women in extensively radiant gowns. As well as the women, we mustn’t forget the over-the-top handsome men in their fashionable tuxedos. Following those, you are bound to come across some unfortunate celebrities in dresses that didn’t quite make the cut.

First off, let me start by congratulating Ben Affleck and team on winning “Best motion picture” with Argo. An amazing movie, I must say! Now, onto fashion! There were some clear top runners at the 2013 Academy Awards; Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Charlize Theron (that girl could walk out bald and in a garbage bag, and I’ll STILL have to pick my jaw up off the floor), but personally, there were some dresses that seem to have gotten much praise that I admittedly don’t agree with, i.e. Anne Hathaway. The back of that dress, gorgeous, and then she turns around…that front. I just found the darts were misplaced. Really? It looked like her nipples were popping out the whole time. Sorry, I just had to throw it out there. Anne Hathaway in a column dress, phenomenal! For me, it’s just that top half that seems to have hit the wrong note. Another one I couldn’t fully adapt to was Reese Witherspoon’s Louis Vuitton cobalt strapless gown. There was something about the way it sat at her hips. Along with that, I’m a huge lover of color-blocking, but I wasn’t too keen with the black strip at the top of her dress.

My preferred dresses of the night would have to go to Charlize Theron, Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, and Halle Berry (Wow!! She asked for Bond girl, and Versace delivered just that!). Did any of you stay up to watch the whole thing?? If so, what were your favourites of the night? Would love to hear what you all thought!

And now, the pictures!

A pop of color and statement jewelry

Hello fellow readers!! Hope that you’re all enjoying your day!

So, usually on Saturday nights, the girls sleep at my parents house and the hubby and I get a night alone to be able to enjoy our food warm and play some video games uninterrupted. Since he is out of town, I decided to take a girlfriend up on her offer of going out and having a girls night. I decided to play it a little more casual since we weren’t going anywhere too fancy. I recently bought this blazer from H&M (for $25!! Steal!) and have been wanting to find somewhere to wear it to. Last night was the night! Since the overall outfit was quite simple, I played it up with the jewelry. A statement necklace and some fun arm candy. This outfit is something that can easily be taken from day to night by playing with your accessories. During the day, you can keep it simple with a cute pair of flats or wedge sneakers and some simple jewelry. Night, up the glamour! Statement necklaces are a great way by doing so. Throw on a smokey eye and you got yourself a chic ensemble fit for some drinks with the ladies!

I apologize for the somewhat blurry pictures. Hope you enjoy them anyway!

Cats, dolls, and nightwalks

Hey there!! As mentioned in “Wishing for warm weather”, the hubby is away for work so I unfortunately have no one here to help snap some shots of outfits (boo). Luckily, I have some pictures saved from a night out a few weeks ago. This outfit is quite appropriate because my eyes were so irritating that night that I had to omit wearing contacts and don a pair of frames, and yesterday, the post was conveniently about just that, glasses!

I found the cat-eye frame to add character to the lace, baby-doll dress. The overall ensemble was quite “sweet” looking, which is why I decided to top it all off with my most comfortable, and easiest to walk in, nude nightwalks. Those shoes are by far one of the most coveted items I own. Contrary to what they look like, I’ve never walked with such ease in a pair of 6″ heels. If you own a pair, you understand exactly what I’m talking about. If you don’t, you need to go out and try them to find out exactly what I’m talking about! Along with that, who doesn’t love a pair of black opaque, over-the-knee stockings? ;)

Wherever you are in the world, have a great Friday/Saturday! ;)

Hi there! I just got back from the optometrist, and lucky me, was told that I have an infection in my right eye. (woohoo…) Now, apparently I received that infection from a pair of contacts. If you know me, you know that I’m more often than not, sporting a pair of glasses. Reason A; I’m usually working at home, so don’t have the need to wear contacts, and B; I’ve got super, crazy dry-eyes, resulting in, me + contacts for more than, let’s high-ball, 8hrs = a bad time. What about eye surgery, you ask? Forget about it. Why? A; I’m scared,  and B; well, for the most part, it’s because I’m scared. Once again, if you know me, to understand that I’m fearful of a little eye surgery is quite hilarious coming from the girl who once had over 30+ piercings in all places of the body, and is currently getting a backpiece to accompany the already uncounted amounts of tattoos placed all over. Yes, frightened. Like a little girl. I’m quite aware that the whole procedure takes literally seconds, but there’s something about my eye being held open while a laser comes at it. Makes me shiver every time.

Alright, back to what I was initially here to write about. Glasses! How do you guys feel about them? I find sometimes they’re that extra missing piece to an outfit. With the right frames, you can make your features totally pop out. Numerous styles and colors to choose from. I, personally, am partial to the cateye. I’ve always had an attachment to that particular look. I’d love to hear what your thoughts are and what frames you fancy! Along with that, I’ve provided a few pictures, for both men and women, that I have a preference for. Enjoy! (p.s. Those clear ones are my FAV! Definitely a pair I need to look for ;))

Wishing for warm weather

So, here I am stuck in a 15cm downpour of snow, while my husband is out in Florida basting in the sun! …Ok, he’s actually there for work and is super busy and most likely hardly enjoying the sun, but I can still be envious, right? ;) Watching him pack all his t-shirts, shorts, shoes, made me long even more for the days of heat and sun. Today I decided an acceptable way to cheer me up, and hopefully all of you as well, was to put together a collage of summer clothing and accessories I can’t wait to get my hands on.
…Now that I think of it, this is not satisfying at all! Just makes me yearn the sun even more! *sigh* Oh well, this is the best we’re going to get for now, right?? Enjoy! ;)

An outfit fit for a winter Saturday

Yes, I realize that it’s Tuesday and not Saturday, but I thought that the cardigan I wore in these photos fit perfectly with my stripe post from yesterday. Additionally, I wanted to show you an outfit I would put together for a Saturday with the fam.

As I mentioned in yesterdays post, I fancy me some nautical wear, and I feel this cardigan is a pleasing way of showing that, without being too literal. The stripes give the outfit a little punch against the overall simple outfit. In lieu of wearing a simple pair of blue jeans, I opted for these greyish-blue pair which makes the navy on the cardigan stand out more, rather than just blending in. Originally, I was wearing a black tee, but felt something was off. Asked the hubby to throw me my white v-neck, and voila! An outfit was made! Comfortable and easy. Now, looking at these pictures, you may be thinking “Heels? With kids?? Really??” Ah, my friends, you see, unlike stiletto’s, wedges not only give you the height that you are looking for, but also the balance and comfort. Moreover, they’re much easier to walk with in the snow than a tall, sexy, stiletto. Those will have to just wait for warmer weather ;) Until then, enjoy the pictures and be sure to check in tomorrow!

Bye for now!

Stripes for everyone!

 Forever 21 crossbody handbag, $25 / ISSA London , $850 /  MSGM
striped skirt, $310 / Marc Jacobs ballet shoes, $600 / Joules navy top,
$105 / Oasis maxi dress, $85 / Diane von Furstenberg pencil skirt, $325 /

canvas espadrille, $60 / Mango striped t shirt, $15  / Tory Burch mini tote, $195
Stripes. One of my all-time favourite go-to graphics. There’s something about a classic stripe that makes me instantaneously fall in love. Let us consider the fact that I am a sucker for perfect, nautical inspired fashion. Understandably though, most people tend to stray away from this print for one main reason … “Stripes make me look fat!” But who said that the only way to wear them is as a horizontal striped shirt? There are countless options that you can lust after, let it be shoes, scarves, hats, or even a bold stripe clutch. This spring, we’re seeing stripes as one of the central trends to look for, so to help make your shopping lives a little more effortless, I’ve put together a collage of a few ways you can make a stripe print work perfectly for you.
Happy shopping!
